The Paton-Churdan sixth grade math bee team traveled to Spencer Tuesday, April 21, for the 2015 regional sixth grade math bee. The students were selected by Mrs Nygaard (pictured, left) in the fall and have been preparing since January to compete.
The math bee consists of five individual tests and one team problem-solving test.
All their hard work paid off as (continuing from left) Chloe Berns, Forest Thompson, Cara Meseck and Danielle Hoyle took third place overall. There were 26 teams and it is a great accomplishment for Paton-Churdan to be third among the region, Nygaard said.
Helping the team achieve third place were three individual placements: Berns in third palce, Hoyle in seventh place, and Meseck in 11th place. “We are so proud to have three in the top 11 among 104 sixth grader students,”Nygaard said. “This was a wonderful experience. It reminds us how proud we are of our small school and the great kids we have here at Paton-Churdan.”
